'Expendables' beats 'Eat Pray Love' over the Weekend

It's rather obvious that Men dominated the box office this weekend.
Sylvester Stallone’s manly fueled Expendables against Julia Roberts’ Eat Pray Love, it was the Expendables that  won the weekend easily.
Grossing $35 million, it was a crucial victory for Lionsgate. However, Eat Pray Love was not bad  either, depite its limited appeal to men, it grossed an estimated $23.7 million, making it Roberts’ highest opening as a leading lady after 2001′s America’s SweethearT
Meanwhile, the new release, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, had a tougher time linking with audiences. The Michael Cera-starrer got only $10.5 million, far cry than the studio had expected. The film from British director Edgar Wright, had a budget of $60 million, was a asuccess at Comic-Con that did not materialized to the real world.
Summer is about to be over. Next weekend, let's see how Piranha 3-D fares against the return of Nanny McPhee.

Leonardo's ‘Inception’ Surpasses Box-Office Dreams

'Inception' has proven that movies don’t have to be in sequels or even animated to do wonders when it comes to  box-office business during the summer.

“Inception,” is described as a complex dramatic thriller about dream invasion. It was at No. 1 at North American theaters over the weekend with $60.4 million in ticket sales.

That number of sales gave the star of “Inception,” Leonardo DiCaprio, the biggest opening of his career. (While “Titanic,” which starred Mr. DiCaprio, went on to become one of the highest-grossing films ever made, it took in $28 million on its first weekend.)

According to Dan Fellman, president for domestic distribution at Warner Brothers,“Being original and fresh and different matters in this marketplace, and this movie had all of those things.”

“Inception,”  won mostly positive reviews from critics. This movie was written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the cinematic powerhouse behind films like “The Dark Knight” and “Memento.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Talks about 'Inception'

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio shares his opinion on his latest movie 'Inception'. He admits that it's not a script he managed to grasp first time round.

"It took multiple reads," says DiCaprio. "But it really was about being able to sit down with Chris Nolan and delve into his mind."

Inception is Nolan's cerebral sci-fi follow-up to his Batman epic The Dark Knight, which has gainedmore than $1bn at the global box office.

DiCaprio plays  Dom Cobb, the leader of a team of thieves who raid secrets from other people's dreams.

Other cast includes Sir Michael Caine, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy and Marion Cotillard.

The movie is a sure bet action packed taking place within dream worlds. There is bunch of scope for some eye-popping set-pieces.

You will see a freight train appearing out of nowhere on a busy Los Angeles street. A whole city folds itself over like a paper.

Even for a film set in several dream worlds, Nolan  has kept computer tricks balanced, not really overdoing it.

There was a  scene, where DiCaprio and Ellen Page  are sitting outside a Paris cafe when the whole street explodes around them, while the actors were right in the middle of it.

"We were there," confirms DiCaprio. "He doesn't use a lot of green screen - he's a very cutting-edge film maker, but he's very old school in his approach. He immerses his actors right into those environments and makes you react as if you were there."

Several of the sets were built to spin and tilt to attain some of the film's zero gravity scenes. When asked how it feels to be thrown around?

"There was a long dialogue between Cillian and myself - four or five pages - and the whole set was on hydraulics. It gave a whole sense of urgency to the scene.

DiCaprio has dealt and worked with several of the greatest directors on the planet: Martin Scorsese (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island), James Cameron (Titanic) and Steven Spielberg (Catch Me If You Can).

So when asked how was it with Nolan? the actor answered, "There's a certain calm and ease that he has," says DiCaprio.

"You'd think that someone who's been able to pull of such ambitious high concept films would be frenetic and mad, but the man simply knows what he's doing.

"I remember watching Memento and Insomnia years and years ago and being fascinated by the multi-dimensional plot structures that unfolded before my eyes."

Inception is out in the UK on the 16th of July.
