Lee DeWyze, 'American Idol' season 9

Lee DeWyze won over Crystal Bowersox in the finals of season 9 of "American Idol" Wednesday night aired on Fox TV.

DeWyze, 24, was chosen by "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell to win the competition.

The Idol winner was working at a paint shop in Chicago and followed his dream to be a professional singer when he joined the reality TV singing competition.

Out of almost 100,000 people who joined the audition, Bowersox and DeWyze were the last two people who made it to the finals.

The two-hour finale of the show included incredible performances of American artists Cristina Aguilera, Bret Michaels and Janet Jackson.

Before announcing the winner, previous judge Paula Abdul appeared and said her farewell piece for judge Cowell.

Cowell was reported to be leaving "American Idol" to host his own show "The X-Factor" next year.

There's no official announcement from "American Idol" production as to who will replace Cowell.

As for the announcement of the winner, Ryan Seacrest dramatically announced Lee as the winner.  Lee was obviously shocked. He kept on saying " Oh my God, this is amazing," several times.

On the other hand Crystal was a good sport and also congratulated Lee for his victory
