The green ogre’s second outing ceased to be on the No. 1 spot for the top-grossing animated film of all time after Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” raked in $920 million at the global box office. “Shrek 2” held the spot for several years after earning $919.8 million in 2004.
The latest installment of the “Toy Story” franchise about also holds the prestige as Disney’s fourth most successful movie, following “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” (2006) at number 1 with $1.07 billion, “Alice in Wonderland” (2010) at second with $1.02 billion, and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (2007) at third with $961 million.
Released on June 18, “Toy Story 3” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 2.
